Outrage
Aroview: Aging Japanese hard-man Takeshi Kitano returns to the turf of his international film celebrity - the minimalist Yakuza movie - in this brutal by-the-numbers gangland saga.
Strictly in line with the restrained form and function of his previous Yakuza tales, Kitano's film doesn't offer any surprises, nor the alleviating humour and sensitivity of his more recent movies, however it does deliver exactly what fans of VIOLENT COP and SONATINE have been missing: the deadpan criminality, dead-end fatalism, and sudden bursts of emotionless violence, of which the director is especially notorious for.

3 stars (Good Enough) Not as original or as moving as his 1990s gangster films, but stylish and entertaining. ~Nick McB
2 stars (Good Try) Aka "The Battle of the Suits". The characters operate within a hierarchy of violence. The ones at the top of the pile are the ones with the most fingers. The best way to approach this bloodbath is first to guess the body count & then view it as a comedy ~Tubbs
