Apart from the requisite thrills and spills, this pays admirable attention to the authentic vibe of the "street" with its core cast of non-professionals, and carries a gratifying subtext about social prejudices and the plight of the underclass. A striking writer-directing debut for Joe Cornish, who was formerly known best as half of the comedy duo, "Adam and Joe", his chops here are reminiscent of Guy Ritchie's splash with LOCK, STOCK & TWO SMOKING BARRELS. From the producers of SHAUN OF THE DEAD, this is tar from the same rich barrel.

1 star (Turkey) The camera-work and editing may excite those stupefied by too much video-gaming; for me, it was numbingly chaotic. Ditto the soundtrack. Meanwhile the urban yoof characters are all despicable morons. Grating rather than thrilling, trendy instead of hip. ~fairbrother

4 stars (Very Good) I enjoyed my journey getting to know the delinquents of the block. I was surprised at the social commentary, and how few punches this movie pulled. I think there's something nice about a film using local talent and attempting authenticity. ~Topaz
