Seeking a Friend For the End of the World
“Scafaria and her two likeable leads have made a witty, warm-hearted and impressively original addition to the rom-com ranks.”~Hollywood Reporter
Aroview: Unlikely partners Steve Carell and Keira Knightley gravitate towards each another as the end of the world approaches in this most unusual romantic-comedy.
Awkwardly shifting between modes of depression and comic relief, the film eventually settles for the earnest tone of a May-December romance. Knightley is once again miscast, but for a doomsday narrative (amongst many others), this odd experiment in uplift through despair proves strangely satisfying, at least as a point of difference from the rest of the pack.

2 stars (Good Try) A good try - better than the usual rom-com crap. Good sound track. ~Tubbs
3 stars (Good Enough) Shortcomings? Sure, but nothing ruinous. Knightley kept in check, Carell convincingly multilayered. Well worth seeing, if only as the flipside to '2012'-style apocalyptic schtick. ~HiFi
