“[A] detailed and stirring bio-pic devoted to the two years in an athlete's life that changed a nation.”~New Yorker
Aroview: A long overdue tribute to one of America's greatest baseballers, Jackie Robinson, who established his sporting and civil rights legend during the 40s and 50s for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Absolutely predictable as an inspirational biopic, this nonetheless hits hard with its vicious depiction of racism towards Robinson's groundbreaking elevation to the Major Leagues in times of severe segregation, and stirring sense of change, embodied in the Dodger's hard-bitten yet progressive manager, Branch Rickey, played with suitable gruff by Harrison Ford. Great baseball scenes, too.
