Sinister
Aroview: Ethan Hawke plays a crime writer who moves into the house of a grisly crime scene and stumbles upon a cache of 8mm snuff footage in the attic, proceeding to dig deeper despite his curiosity having grave consequences for his family.
A satisfyingly creepy and eventful horror movie that doubles as a page-turning murder mystery, this delivers both frights and intrigue in equal measure and qualifies as one of the best of its genre so far this decade.

3 stars (Good Enough) Owes a debt to the Japanese horror school. Don't know why Hawke wanders around the house without switching the lights on. It would have helped him if he had cut down on the sauce. Some of the horror relies on loud and imposing music. ~Tubbs
4 stars (Very Good) As much as I don't like Ethan Hawke, Sinister was a genuinely scary horror film which is surprisingly hard to come by these days. Horror fans will love the way it delivers on the genre with some inventive artistic flourish. ~Anon
