Camille Claudel, 1915
Aroview: Another acting masterclass from the formidable Juliette Binoche intensifies this clear-sighted portrait of misunderstood sculptress Camille Claudel, whose first year in a mental asylum is recounted in painstaking detail.
Also a triumph for its equally misunderstood director, Bruno Dumont, the film makes great use of stillness and vivid facial close-ups to highlight the internal anguish of its protagonist, previously played by Isabelle Adjani in the 1988 biopic of the same name.
