“It's an intoxicating marvel, strange and sublime: it combines sci-fi ideas, gloriously unusual special effects and a sharp atmosphere of horror. ”~Time Out
Aroview: Jonathan Glazer (SEXY BEAST, BIRTH) directs screen siren Scarlett Johansson in this startlingly original sci-fi thriller about an alien seductress prowling the streets of Glasgow, Scotland.
Connecting a series of interplays between predator and prey, the narrative variously explores the volatility of sexual dynamics, and ultimately what it means to be human. While paying sly homage to the stylised cinema of Stanley Kubrick, this aesthetically and thematically competes on its own terms and, like his visionary films, will richly reward repeated viewings. For Scarlet Johansson, this is a parallel yet inverse role to that which she played in Spike Jonze' HER, utilising her visual rather than vocal sensuality to more satisfying effect, yet never with a prurient eye.

5 stars (Exceptional) This is an intelligent and classy film that shows just how good an actress Johansson can be when given the chance. ~Anon
4 stars (Very Good) I watched it, and it was really beautiful and compelling, but I still don't really know what I watched. ~Truant
4 stars (Very Good) An intriguing screenplay and a splendid performance from Scarlett. ~Tubbs
2 stars (Good Try) Spectacular shots, great sound. Imperceptibly one starts to bond with the largely silent Johansson character, an alien. Exploitative of a woman's body and sexual attraction, I felt in an insensitive way, but riveting nonetheless. ~Sandy
