“A grownup sci-fi drama that sustains fear and tension while striking affecting chords on love and loss. ”~Hollywood Reporter
Aroview: Amy Adams plays a linguistics expert who is recruited by the military to determine the intentions of seemingly-benign alien visitors who have descended upon the Earth.
Taking a realistic, cerebral approach to the familiar alien-invasion scenario, the intricate script cleverly posits a theory that language influences how we perceive and experience the world, a concept that is freighted with some surprises and a rich emotional payoff. Together with some awe-inspiring images of alien life, the result is a contemporary sci-fi classic to file alongside the likes of 2013's GRAVITY.

3 stars (Good Enough) The Earth people were not that interesting but the special effects surrounding the alien presence were well done and showed originality - furthermore, the screenplay refreshingly strived for intelligence rather than violence. ~Tubbs
4 stars (Very Good) Amy Adams gives a good enough performance, but Jeremy Renner is grating and wooden. However, the sound design is absolutely phenomenal, and the film takes a fascinating stance on how we view language. The aliens are great too. ~trauma_hound412
4 stars (Very Good) Pretty good sci-fi. Fresh take I haven't particularly seen before. ~Catapillar
