Beat the Devil
Aroview: Spoofing their own suspense movies (such as CASABLANCA and MALTESE FALCON), Humphrey Bogart and dir. Huston produced this comic oddity with the help of Truman Capote, who apparently made up the script as they went along. Bogart hated it, but can be appreciated for its sophisticated skewering of the whole exotic-locale-cum-thriller cliché.

3 stars (Good Enough) An entertaining screenplay is helped along by a strong cast. Robert Morley and Peter Lorre are worth the price of admission alone. ~Tubbs
4 stars (Very Good) Enjoyable shambles. Starts as if it's in the middle and ends with the same feeling. The cast are just riffing, and you're invited along as one of the gang. ~Regando
