French Dispatch, The
“The French Dispatch is a rocket ship ride to your cinematic soul, meshing word, action and vision in one glorious bon-bon that’s both sweet and savory.”~Jason Gorber, Slashfilm
Aroview: A wildly inventive anthology film from meticulous auteur Wes Anderson (GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL) set in in a fictional 20th century French town, where a huge ensemble cast bring to life a collection of stories published in "The French Dispatch Magazine".
When the eccentric magazine's editor dies suddenly of a heart attack, a farewell issue is prepared by the remaining staff, comprising “an obituary, a travel guide and three feature articles”, stories which span from the May 1968 student uprisings to a piece on a bizarre form of haute cuisine practiced by the local police force.
An exquisitely detailed cinematic delight and a love letter to 20th century journalism, packed with 50's and 60's arts and culture references.

4 stars (Very Good) Best if you know something of US journalism, literature, the French Art Establishment & mental asylums to take this fast-paced satire fully on board. Even Maigret & French cartoons get riffed. A sharp contrast to the junk on TVNZ. Great fun! ~Sandy
