“Despite its commitment to biting humor and acerbic analysis, Competencia Oficial is, at its heart, a celebration of artists and their process.”~Lovia Gyarkye, The Hollywood Reporter
Aroview: This Spanish comedy is another enjoyable satire about movie making, this one largely set around the rehearsal of a big-budget, prestige drama and the respective egos and clashing methods of its director (Penelope Cruz), its movie star (Antonio Banderas), and its maestro thespian (Oscar Martinez). It's a stylish and fun three-hander set against a backdrop of architectural splendour.

2 stars (Good Try) Stylish in the extreme, but pretentious; not really a comedy. Fluctuates wildly from farce to melodrama. Surrealistically good acting, especially by Cruz & Banderas. The hilarious Press Conference is a highlight! ~Anon
2 stars (Good Try) There were some worthwhile segments, with Banderas best of the trio, but overall a reduction in running time would have helped. ~Tubbs
