Aroview: The oft-filmed short story 'Legend of Sleepy Hollow' is fashioned by illustrious iconoclast Tim Burton as the goriest, most expensive-looking 'Hammer' film ever made.
Johnny Depp returns for his favourite director as Ichabod Crane, a fey 19th Century detective whose healthy sense of scepticism marks him out as the man to solve the mystery of the 'headless horseman' murders in the Gothic backwoods of New England. Despite Burton's customary visual panache and the top flight cast, there is little here that registers as much more than homage.

4 stars (Very Good) Although the story is not as good as it could be, it is held together by impeccable are direction and interesting characters, as is the case with many Burton films. ~dr.strangelove
3 stars (Good Enough) A fairly gripping horror/fantasy tale of the headless horseman of Sleepy Hollow, and the detective hired to find him (played by mysterious Johnny Depp) and filmed by ever-gothic director Burton. ~Tom H
3 stars (Good Enough) Turn of the 19th Century stylistic Gothic-like horror about a small town that is plagued by decapitations. Dark and moody, there is perhaps more emphasis on the over all visuals rather than story. ~GenXGirl
3 stars (Good Enough) The artists and set designers do well with the Gothic requirements. Overall it is an enjoyable romp with plenty of acting talent on display. ~Tubbs
