Bringing Out the Dead
Aroview: Drawn from the hell-bent memoirs of a New York ambulance driver, this sees dir. Scorcese returning to home-turf, a script by Paul Schrader and a cinematic fluency not in evidence since GOODFELLAS.
Nicholas Cage understates effectively in the lead as a shell-shocked medic surviving three night-shifts tending Manhattan's horrendous crack-houses and housing projects. With pitch-black humour providing an immediate painkiller for the soul, this also nurses a wounded humanism that lingers afterwards.

4 stars (Very Good) Follows Frank, a burned-out New York City paramedic working the grave-yard shift, over three sleep-deprived, adrenaline-fueled nights amongst the dead and dying. And somewhere in the craziness of it all he finds love. Darkly funny, it's quite a ride. ~GenXGirl
3 stars (Good Enough) It is well written with some good off beat humour. The shooting locations are well chosen and add to the darkness. ~Tubbs
