Aroview: A rumpled Michael Douglas plays an academic professor and successful author who's terminally unfinished second novel is symptomatic of midlife turmoil.

Complicating matters but ultimately liberating him are his opportunistic gay agent (Robert Downey Jnr.), a meek, gifted student (Tobey Maguire), a coquettish bookworm (Katie Holmes) and a pregnant mistress (Frances McDormand). Underpinned by motifs of celebrity tragedy, this is an introspective drama that ruminates thoughtfully about the 'price of success'.
