Cecil B. Demented

Aroview: An unruly and somewhat passe battlecry against the mediocrity of Hollywood from the Low Priest of Pop Culture, John Waters. In a weird parody of Waters himself, Stephen Dorff plays Mr. Demented, a guerilla film-maker who leads his dedicated crew of misfits in the protest kidnapping of movie star Honey Whitlock (Melanie Griffith). Griffith bravely enters into the spirit of the thing as the most obvious piece of casting irony, while art imitates life also with Patricia 'Patty' Hearst among the supporting players. For all its anti-'mainstream' rhetoric, this threatens to be as bland anything on Melanie Griffith's Hollywood CV. Also stars Alicia Witt.
