An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn
Aroview: Alan Smithee is the standard pseudonym used in Hollywood when a director wants to take his name off a film. Conceived by screenwriter Joe Eszterhas (BASIC INSTINCT etc.), this 'mockumentary' takes pot-shots at Hollywood - too bad they're often cheap, cliched and badly executed. Eric Idle plays a film director who steals his own film, in defence of his 'artistic integrity'. The irony that this film became another Alan Smithee production is now the stuff of Hollywood legend. Among the cameo-heavy cast, look out for Sylvester Stallone, Eszterhas himself, and infamous producers Harvey Weinstein and Roberts Evans (The Kid Stays in the Picture).
