Kafka
Aroview: This unsuspecting follow-up film for the director of the independent smash hit, SEX, LIES AND VIDEOTAPE went largely unreleased, though it has much to recommend it. An interesting attempt to commit the ‘story’ of Czech writer Franz Kafka to film, it is suitably evocative and atmospheric, though the narrative is inevitably contrived to help ‘dramatise’ a real life characterised by introspection and detachment. Jeremy Irons is convincingly Kafka-esque, as is the expressionistic production design and photography. .
