Sunshine
Aroview: Expansive and immaculately crafted epic of the last 100 years of Hungarian history, with Ralph Fiennes playing three roles - Grandfather, Father and Son in the Jewish Sonnenschein family. Such a multiple role befits the cyclical nature of history presented here, as political fashions repeat themselves, World Wars sweep past and the family are dragged into the Holocaust. Filmed on location in Hungary, this is the kind of intelligent European period drama they just don’t make any more.
