Aroview: The dir. of recent Hollywood gloss forsakes stars for a gritty, admired character piece set in a Vietnam War-bootcamp in Louisiana, 1971.

Among a group of diverse draftees (all acted by unknowns), Colin Farrell is a lead troublemaker attempting to insubordinate his way out of the conflict, events resolving in an action showdown amid the mists of the bayou. Though never quite adding the subversive political dimensions of say, a John Sayles, this does provide a sufficiently-new angle on an unwinnable war.
