Aroview: The hotly-awaited follow-up to SWINGERS from Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau looks to resurrect the easy-going swing and self-satire of their debut, casting themselves as odd-couple best friends making a bumbling attempt to graduate into the mafia, courtesy of Uncle Peter Falk.
Unfortunately it never admits (or transcends) the familiarity of the storyline, and despite the innate strengths of the cast, a whining humour slowly triumphs over wit. The calculated inclusion of Frank Sinatra and other ‘lounge’ music on the soundtrack (a la SWINGERS) can now only be described as doubly dated. Scores points though for the lush photography by Wong Kar-Wai’s cameraman, Christopher Doyle.
