Careful
Aroview: Iconoclast film-maker Guy Maddin’s dreamlike tale of repression and disorder, set in an alpine village where rigidly studious young men attend butler school until one of their rank has an incestuous dream about his mother. A boldly tinted pastiche of German expressionism, Greek tragedy, Gothic melodrama, and pure Kitsch, its grandiose visuals linger long in the mind, but its lack of narrative sustenance limits its appeal to those with adventurous taste.
