Behind the Sun

Brazil / France / Switzerland 2001, 92 minutes
Dir. Walter Salles
In Portuguese with English subtitles
Rating: [M]
Genres: Foreign Cinema, Drama

Topics: Peasantry, Period - 1910s.

Feat. Jose Dumont

Aroview: Worthy followup to CENTRAL STATION by dir. Salles, again accessing the underlayers of Brazil in a melodrama set in the dusty hinterlands of 1910. Concerning a young man (Jose Dumont) caught up in family-feuds, this compensates some familiarity with lusty, emotionally-scarred characters and ravishing visuals.
