Spider-Man
Aroview: New-improved re-spinning of the Marvel comic book superhero that finds a perfect match of material and director, and the crucially inspired casting of Tobey Maguire as web-boy Peter Parker.
It’s classic teenage outcast fantasy stuff – the nerd who gets to impress the girl (Kirsten Dunst) by kicking sand back in the face of the school jocks, then finds bigger, rowdier fish to fry in corporate tycoon Willem Dafoe, whose alter ego is arch-nemesis, The Green Goblin. Gets a little chaotic in a blockbuster kinda way for some tastes, but with the best effects money can buy and momentum that never snags, it’s hard not to get caught up in the excitement.

3 stars (Good Enough) Flashy but conventional with the acting ranging from entertainingly hammy (Dafoe, Simmons) to flat-out awful (Maguire, Franco). ~Wizzums
3 stars (Good Enough) Enjoyable special effects and an excellent cameo from JK Simmons. ~Tubbs
