Windtalkers

USA 2002, 134 minutes
Dir. John Woo
Rating: [R16]
Genres: Action/Adventure / War

Topics: Period 1940s.

Aroview: Based on a little-known chapter of WWII – the use by the US army of Navajo Indians for their ‘unbreakable’ language to help win various battles in the Pacific.

A strange mix of Nic Cage histrionics, hurricane-level battle-scenes and dir. Woo’s windy sentiments about unrequited buddy-dom. In some ways more honest than others of its ilk (WE WERE SOLDIERS), but essentially an opportunity for a pounding depiction of the Battle of Saipan.
