Aro Favourite Roadkill

Canada 1989, 97 minutes
Dir. Bruce McDonald
Rating: [R16]
Genres: Cult / Road Movie, Independent

Aroview: This first road movie from dir. Bruce McDonald (HIGHWAY 61) is possessed of a naive charm and raw energy that characterizes many of the best indie debuts, with a brilliant alt-Canadian soundtrack adding further octane to the story of a young woman (Valerie Buhagiar) sent to recall a punk band that’s gone AWOL for a sleazy rock manager.

With a sly nod to THE WIZARD OF OZ, she meets various miscreants and oddballs in the badlands of Northern Ontario, most memorably Don McKellar’s placid wannabe serial killer. Features cameos from Joey Ramone, and cult musician Nash the Slash, and those glorious Cowboy Junkies tunes.
