Full Frontal
Aroview: Director Stephen Soderbergh calls on the favours of famous friends for a makeshift, semi-improvised poke at the film industry that only a power-broking ‘insider’ could conceive.
Connecting various neurotic industry types through a film-within-a-film framework, one can almost hear the film-makers chuckling to themselves at the stream of in-jokes (including a cameo by Miramax boss Harvey Weinstein), the deliberately inane banter, and some absurdly grainy videography. The odd random spark notwithstanding, Soderbergh’s talent gets all but buried under his apparent ego, in what looks and feels a film-school exercise, and a rather pointless one at that.
