Secret Defense
Aroview: A Hitchcockian thriller in which dir. Rivette, better known for his surreal excursions, knowingly toys with the conventions of the suspense genre, producing a steely drama of family and corporate intrigue.
Sandrine Bonnaire plays a scientist whose brother persuades her that their father, who died five years previously, was actually murdered by his business partner. Though slowly paced, this develops its own satisfying atmosphere of perilous and murky events.

2 stars (Good Try) Disappointing even for Rivette enthusiasts, like me. Long, repetitive, & ponderous. Even Sandrine Bonnaire cannot make this sparkle. Rivette should stick to his wonderful "surreal excursions", like "Celine & Julie go Boating" ~Anon
