Kiki's Delivery Service
Aroview: A magical animation from the masterful Japanese dir. Miyazaki, which delivers a contemporary fairytale with strong characters, rich visuals and a storyline that will entrance most viewers.
Kiki is a 13-year-old witch in training who must depart from her parents for a year alone in the wider world (along with her black cat Gigi), to negotiate both the delights and perils of freedom. From the opening scenes of Kiki flying far above the night landscape to a spectacular ending which involves a gigantic airship, scene after scene is both inventive and charming, and though full of action, one is mostly impressed by the film’s thoughtful evocation of the teenage rites of passage.
The optional English language track features the voices of Kirsten Dunst, Phil Hartman, Matthew Lawrence and Janeane Garofalo.

4 stars (Very Good) This is more or less the perfect family film, because it doesn't contain an antagonist - and doesn't need one. ~artsfiend
4 stars (Very Good) Kiki is one of Miyazaki's greatest characters and the animation brings her and the strange city she lives in to vivid life. ~Anon
