Aroview: A bleak study of the post-prison world of paroled killer Billy Bob Thornten, who is haunted by the spectre of his teenage victim as he attempts to integrate into a Chicago substratum of losers, crims and lost souls.

Filmed with woozy earnestness, this pulls few surprises but does benefit from Thornten’s unusual, though hardly sympathetic lead and an excellent ensemble cast who offer some untypical character portraits. Brooding camerawork from Coen Bros cinematographer Roger Deakins is also a benefit.
