God's Lonely Man
Aroview: The story of St. Francis of Assisi is loosely transposed to the underbelly of modern LA - a redemption-seeking nervous loner befriends a troubled 14-year-old girl and plots to avenge an affiliated child porn ring. Its bold convergence of alienation, hedonism and Catholic guilt recalls the work of Abel Ferrara, while Michael Wyle's mesmerising central turn comes off like some bastard son of Travis Bickle and Woody Allen. Whether you like it or not, this is one film that won't easily escape you conscience.
