Dinner Rush
Aroview: An appetizing New York ‘food movie’ sprinkled over lightly with mobster melodrama set in the bustling, upmarket Italian restaurant of the avuncular Danny Aiello, an ex-bookmaker turned legit operator trying to wash his hands of a shadier past.
Serving up his large ensemble cast with bite-sized vignettes, commercials veteran dir. Giraldi (who shot the film on location in his own restaurant!) captures the pressure cooker intensity of the kitchen and presents food-as-love-object probably better than any food movie yet. However, the narrative and characterisations are broad and familiar, so those looking for food for thought might be better served elsewhere.
