Life of David Gale, The

USA 2002, 125 minutes
Dir. Alan Parker
Rating: [R16]
Genres: Suspense/Crime / Courtroom

Aroview: Ingenious though slightly muddled thriller, enacts the leadup to death-rower Kevin Spacey's arrest, trial for murder and imminent execution.

Told in flashback to journalist Kate Winslet (who becomes sure of his innocence), this is both politically rigged - both Spacey and his 'victim' being death penalty abolitionists - and bursting with red herrings. Though liberal in its leanings, it is the unsavoury undertow to the story that lingers the longest.
