Lady and the Duke, The
Aroview: Intellectually stimulating and strikingly anti-realist account of the French Revolution, told through the (true-life) relationship between an English noblewoman and French aristocrat.
Instead of using expensive period spectacle, dir. Rohmer boldly superimposes his players onto digitised landscapes, a device which underlines the philosophical dimensions of his dialogue. For those with the mental stamina this is a recommended as engrossing and challenging cinema.
