Aroview: A savvy true Hollywood story detailing the sordid life of “Hogan’s Heroes” TV star Bob Crane, whose illicit 'sex addiction' led to his decline from fame and mysterious murder.
Greg Kinnear nails Crane’s amiability, if not his burly charisma, in a tale of sex, lies and the videotape evolution from the 60s to the 80s - Crane’s rise and fall pivoting on his relationship with an electronics salesman (Willem Dafoe) who supplied him with the latest video gear in casual exchange for a share of Crane’s fame-fuelled sex-capades. Surprisingly breezy in tone from no-nonsense director Paul Schrader, this skimps on character study and seems to rush its closing passage, but overall is a highly captivating cautionary tale about the price of celebrity.
