Matchstick Men
Aroview: A moderately engaging caper comedy from dir. Ridley Scott starring Nicolas Cage as an obsessive-compulsive type whose profession as a conman (with fellow “matchstick man” Sam Rockwell) is compromised by the arrival of the 14-year-old daughter he’s never met.
Arguably less smart than ‘smart alec’, its all surfaces and machismo-cool, but it’s the plot that finally contrives itself to a point where any possible outcome (however twisted or straight) leaves not much room for an either convincing or lasting impression.

3 stars (Good Enough) Roy, neurotic with anxiety issues, and his ambitious protege are two successful con-artists. When the 14-year-old daughter he never knew shows up unannouced, she's also keen to learn the tricks of the trade. Great twists & turns, keeps you guessing. ~GenXGirl
2 stars (Good Try) If you don't mind Cage catching fire a bit too often it is watchable. Alison Lohman plays a 14-year-old and does well. ~Tubbs
