USA 2003, 97 minutes
Dir. Robert Rodriguez
Rating: [R16]
Genres: Action/Adventure, Suspense/Crime / Western
Feat. Johnny Depp, Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Ruben Blades, Willem Dafoe, Mickey Rourke, Danny Trejo
Aroview: The final 'installment' in dir. Rodriguez' violent Mexican trilogy (see EL MARIACHI and DESPERADO), with Banderas again the loner in a dusty town, bandying around a guitar-case stuffed with automatic weaponry.
Essentially riffing on the same stylised, brooding characters and joyously overripe violence as its predecessors, this luckily has Depp adding a dose of genuine wit as a psychotic CIA-agent on the loose. Excessive and blood-drenched - weak stomachs steer clear.

4 stars (Very Good) The third of RR's Mexican trilogy, El Mariachi ups the ante with more guns, more deaths, more over-the-top acting, and a surprise stunning and hilarious performance from Depp who adds to the original Desperado cast. His food had better be good... ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) Obviously trying to set some kind of record in the body count stakes - not just in sheer numbers but the speed of the dispatch. Everything is done with gusto. ~Tubbs
