Prozac Nation
Aroview: Rites-of-passage drama distinguished by an intense performance by Christina Ricci, as a young woman struggling through her first year at university and finally imploding with mental difficulties.
Adapted from the autobiographical bestseller by Elizabeth Wurtzel, the vicious circle of depression is given a compellingly frazzled look, especially as she rages against her domineering mother (Lange). Edged with a knowing dark comedy, this finally never quite gels beyond the portrayal of the wounded adolescent ego, yet remains evocative and is peppered with some great one-liners.
