Girl, Interrupted
Aroview: Winona Ryder flies over the cuckoo's nest as the confused middle-class waif of Susanna Kaysen's 60s counterculture memoir, who's persuaded by her uptight parents to commit herself to a private mental hospital.
Ryder gives one of her better performances, but its Angelina Jolie who steals the psych-ward show (and won an Oscar) as a belligerent, drooling seductress. Stylist dir. Mangold also manages to slip the straitjacket of the script's underlying sentimentality.
