Abouna
Aroview: Set in the impoverished, dusty landscapes of Chad, this fable of African fragmentation follows two brothers (aged 8 and 15) as they search fruitlessly for their absent father.
A work of gentle conception and gradually accumulating emotions, this works as much by its poetic visuals and spellbinding score (by Ali Farka Toure) as its storyline, which occasionally veers into the surreal.
