Capturing the Friedmans

Aroview: Not an easy watch but as compelling as they come, this is a uniquely close-up portrait of a middle-class Jewish family who are ripped apart when two of its members are indicted for systematic child abuse in the 1980s.

Making best advantage of the extensive home movie footage shot by camera-buff Freidman and his sons over the years, the film-makers curiously 'capture' a family under siege though discover the truth proves somewhat harder to lock down.
