American Film Theatre - Iceman Cometh, The
Aroview: Masterly filmic adaptation of Eugene O'Neill's late stageplay set among the various seedy denizens of an early 20th century barroom, awaiting the arrival of their now well-heeled friend.
Difficult to summarise, this great work manages to combine the drunken pathos of its skidrow characters with poetic, political and religious musings of a high order. Boasts a tremendous cast, with a seething Ryan, playing a former Anarchist, and cranky proprietor March standing out especially.
Filmed as part of the "American Film Theatre", this also includes interviews with the producers about the series.
