American Film Theatre - The Homecoming
Aroview: One of the very finest of the American Film Theatre stageplay adaptations, dir. Hall and his cast came off a two-year run of Harold Pinter's classic 1967 play before making this accomplished version.
Set in a drab North London apartment, a family of ugly souls squabble away, always suggesting and never directly stating the power struggles beneath it all - a certain balance upset by two visitors from America. A notorious masterpiece of 1960s theatre, Pinter's vision of human psychology is brutal and desperate, expressed in wonderful cadences of virtuoso dialogue.
