- Wire, The - Season 1 (TV Series) (2002)
- The Wire (all series) really is as good as everyone says. I haven't seen much on TV that assumes so axiomatically that the person watching has a brain. Not exactly as "realist" as it's cracked up to be, but disbelief is rarely so easy to suspend.
- Rome (TV Series) (2005)
- What a waste of time. The novelty value of seeing Rome brought to life lasts only until people begin acting and speaking. I was furious with the person who told me so fervently to see it! Should have a skull and crossbones on the box.

- When the Road Bends - Tales Of A Gypsy Caravan (2006)
- Brilliant, sad, jubilant, beautiful, enthralling. Which admittedly all sounds like rubbish when I write it down, but it's true, I reckon – have a look and see.
- Genghis Blues (1999)
- If this isn't one of the weirdest true stories ever, hard to imagine what would top it – with amazing music to boot.
- Plan 9 from Outer Space (1956)
- There is no good reason to see this film! It's as bad as they say, really bad, *just* bad bad bad. Not even irony or recherche in–group taste can justify watching it. Avoid at all costs. Spend your time engaged in other forms of ascetic practice.
- Whisper of the Heart (1995)
- My favourite Ghibli (that's saying a lot); one of my favourite films ever. A keen, unfussed view of the truths of everyday things, left full room to play by a quiet, bare–bones story.
- Wild Strawberries (1957)
- I don't really hold with saying much about films this good. I can't imagine what kind of person would not be blown away.
- Love (Szerelem) (1971)
- Man o man. One of the best films I have ever seen, the kind that leaves you speechless.
- Touch of Evil, A (1958)
- Best policy with films this good is to shut up and watch. Sheer genius.

- A Single Man (2009)
- Just watch it. Anything anyone tells you about a film like this (and how many of those are there anyway?) will probably fly entirely wide of the mark, or at best only nick the bare surface.
