A well respected series that balances out respect for the victims and the needs of the viewer reasonably well. The lead castings are fine but the supporting cast in most cases is sheer quality.
There is plenty of time to admire the excellent production values but there is not a great deal else to justify the running time. The screenplay easily gets distracted and it was like watching a mini–series where padding is inserted to extend things.
Grew up watching Jerry Lewis as an excellent visual comedian so it was a bit of an eye opener when I first saw this very good dramatic performance. On the other hand, De Niro's character is a bit one dimensional & repetitive but Lewis makes it worthwhile
There were segments that were dialogue intensive and they hindered the flow of the film. The screenplay needed to be tighter and for the dancing to do more of the talking.
