Ten, The (2007)
Black comedies are hit and miss.
Palm Beach (2019)
Although the undemanding screenplay doesn't amount to much you should be able to find somebody in this ensemble that will help you pass the time.
North and South (TV Mini-series) (2004)
Those parts of the screenplay that deal with the industrial workers – their working and living conditions – are excellent. The industrial shooting locations in the north of England are the real thing.
Dead Lands, The (2014)
There is plenty of fighting action which means the soundtrack consists of a lot of oohs and aahs. In between, there is a lot of male posturing and showboating so it doesn't lack entertainment value.
Olive Kitteridge (TV Mini-Series) (2014)
The two veterans Frances McDormand (an acting masterclass) and Richard Jenkins deliver the goods again.
Arrival (2016)
The Earth people were not that interesting but the special effects surrounding the alien presence were well done and showed originality – furthermore, the screenplay refreshingly strived for intelligence rather than violence.
Kusama - Infinity (2018)
She's a bundle of colour – a good documentary with plenty of archival film to support her biographical details.
Mammoth (2009)
It is one of those screenplays that are afterward hard to remember anything of consequence happening but all the same, this one is not a waste of time. Michelle Williams is another reason to give it a try.
Old Boys (2018)
I assume Lawther in the public school rugby scene was meant to be a nod of respect to Harold Lloyd (?)– it was the best scene in the film because the romantic triangle that followed – if charmingly done – was old hat.
Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The (2011)
The second half is disappointing partly because the first is so strong. Of the many excellent performances, Maggie Smith is wonderfully racist but my pick for best is Penelope Wilton who had the hardest character. The soundtrack was terrific.
