Although you miss the black and white of the original this updated screenplay does have a better cast overall and is also able to do justice to the terrific plot scenario of the novel.
It doesn't quite succeed in telling both Travers's story and that of the making of the film but the production's values are good as is the performance of Emma T.
Although it could be said that the pacing moves as quickly as a work of sculpture it also reflects the time and place. Binoche excels without the aid of wardrobe trappings and a hairdo.
I like the economical running time brought about by slick editing and a to the point screenplay. Also, there are some great mundane indoor and outdoor ( a lot that are wet) shooting locations with a soundtrack that fits.
