Tru Loved (2008)
Reasonable viewing – nothing earth shattering – some fresh faces on view.
Big Knife, The (1955)
Stagey & talkey unfortunately but in each scene there is acting worth watching particularly from Steiger, Ida Lupino or Corey. Shelley Winters has a great cameo.
Homesman, The (2014)
Segmented story – Swank alone then with Jones then Jones alone. Couldn't see why the Spader segment was needed but entertaining. Great set designs & good script topped by excellent photography. The 2 leads are good with Hilary in a Hilary Swank type role
Geography Club (2013)
The acting is amateurish but at least the cast are fresh faces – a well intentioned production I would say.
Interpreter, The (2005)
The basic premise of overhearing a plot by an interpreter is fine but what ensues lacks credibility. We didn't need the romantic interest it just dragged things out.A bit more of Catherine Keener would have helped.
Shenandoah (1965)
As a period piece it's fine but there is an underlying sentimentality (Stewart is well cast) which detracts from its effectiveness.
Space Jam (1996)
Enjoyed this film more on a second viewing – the animated sequences are a winner – the human side doesn't work quite as well with the exception of Bill Murray.
Vinyl (TV Series) (2016)
Uneven storytelling – they somehow have made the characters not that interesting which I would have thought was hard to do. However the soundtrack is gold.
Assembly (2007)
The battle scenes are impressive and create a certain amount of tension.
Stranger Than Fiction (2006)
A very good script and so is Ferrell in a Bill Murray type role but the highlight is top drawer actress Emma Thompson – her scenes with Queen Latifah are strong.
