Stranger Than Fiction
Aroview: A self-consciously 'clever' comedy with a cunning conceit - tax inspector Will Ferrell discovers that his drab life is being narrated and manipulated in a work of fiction.
Soon discovering that his 'author' (Emma Thompson) is in the habit of killing off her main character, he attempts to save his own fate by tracking her down, while managing a burgeoning (though somewhat unlikely) relationship with love interest Maggie Gyllenhaal. Heavily influenced by the scripts of Charlie Kaufman (ADAPTATION et al) and a wave of other 'meta-ironic' comedies, this is diverting enough even if it never quite consummates the cleverness it is so happy to flirt with.
