Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983)
All the ingredients are there – good story and props plus a non boring adult cast – but it doesn't seem to work as well as it should. The kids voices were annoying.
Epic Movie (2007)
The grubbiness is mostly kept in check which is some achievement for this franchise. Some watchable skits – the pirate one being the best.
Date Movie (2006)
There was a good opening scene but it was all grubby and downhill after that.
Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny (2006)
I thought the opening credits were very stylish but then what followed was uneven – there were some good bits with originality but these were undermined by unnecessary grubbiness.
Night Of The Living Dead: Reanimated (2009)
With all the different animators and their styles thrown together its probably not going to please any one camp. An interesting experiment but I don't think the audio melded in too well & it turned out to be more of a distraction.
Love Birds (2011)
Sally Hawkins and Bryan Brown add a bit of solidity to the performances and make this okay comedy plot watchable.
White Lies (2013)
Three understated performances complements the spot on periodic props/clothing and the film has a genuine atmosphere. The pacing of the film is just right and the photography is quality.
Theory of Everything, The (2014)
Because the main aspects of the story are reasonably well known it is not that interesting but what makes it watchable are the production values and the performances.
Where the Buffalo Roam (1980)
A really odd piece of work but needless to say with the casting and the subject matter is not boring.
Back to the Secret Garden (2001)
A quality production with an excellent adult cast complemented by good performances from the youngsters.
