Shaft (2000)
Extremely competent cast – the film has its moments – there is always one of the greatest theme tunes to fall back on.
Nobody's Fool (1994)
The Americans tend to do these small town "dramas" rather well. Newman is great and supported by a terrific cast with Vince a standout.
Tequila Sunrise (1988)
The ingredients are there but stronger casting than Gibson and Russell would have helped.
Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979)
This is how zombies should be portrayed – these days its a tired genre.
Piano, The (1993)
It captures the era very well i.e. when there was nothing to do. The piano score and the kid's voice grates. Some good location shooting. Unusual to see Holly and Harvey subdued.
A Bout de Souffle (Breathless) (1959)
An insistent jazz score interrupts at times. A strange bed room scene of about 20 mins. where the combatants talk drivel otherwise mainly wonderful street locations.Interesting editing and continuity – watch Belmondo's cigarettes as he chain smokes.
Protector, The (Tom yum goong, Warrior King) (2005)
Highly skilled martial arts with continuous action sequences – even if a bit noisy.
Duets (2000)
Patchy with some good bits but silly ending – another intense performance from Giamatti doesn't help.
Game, The (1997)
Failed to hold attention – would have been better to have been tighter to maintain the suspense – could have lost half an hour and an hysterical Penn.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010)
Tries hard to be different and funny.
